Downtown
- During the 19th and early decades of the 20th
century, downtown was the compact, centralized district to which
all of a community's residents came to work, conduct personal
business, shop, and play. Governmental offices, businesses
and stores, and cultural and amusement facilities were located
there. Depending upon the size of the town, downtown might
include only one street or expand into perpendicular and parallel
streets. Also known as "Main Street" and the "Central
Business District (CBD)." |
