Lesson Procedures

First have students write for 5 minutes on the following topic:

Write about your dream house.  What does it look like?  How many rooms does it have?  Where would you build it?  Who lives there with you?  Draw it if you like but describe your drawing in words, too.

Go through the PowerPoint presentation on the timeline of Acadian Events.  Have students take notes on the chronology of events.  At the same time give students the map to use with Activity 1.

Go to Activity 1 – Mapping the Movements of the Acadians.

Review with students the characteristics of Creole architecture from the Creole Heritage Unit.  Use the Acadian Cottages reproducible sheet for students to identify how the Acadians borrowed from the Creoles and how the Acadian cottages are different.

To review the lesson, go to Activity 2 – Evangeline and Gabriel’s Dream Acadian Cottage.
