Flash cards and memory game to learn and practice correct vocabulary
Log Cabin Construction/Building Bee
Guided reading to determine the process of building a log cabin and reflect on it as a symbol of American virtue
Have students use both of the reproducible materials "Steps in Log Construction" and Activity 2: How to Build a Log Cabin" to answer questions about log cabin construction."
Discuss answers to all questions and explore usage of a log cabin as a symbol

Use the student’s writing assignment or illustration to check comprehension of activity surrounding a “Building Bee”

Further identification and discussion—Use provided overhead transparency or provided Power Point Presentation and EZ Content Blueprint

Note taking and discussion exercise to build on and expand knowledge of the features of Upland South Architecture
Ask students why they think these are features of Upland South architecture
