Lesson Procedures
Introduce Downtown Louisiana by discussing student thoughts on it
First have students brainstorm on a Downtown writing topic: Write about
what you think of when you hear the word “Downtown”. What does it look
like? What does it smell like? What does it “taste” like? What does
it sound like? (Use all your senses to describe Downtown.) What do you
find there? Why is there a place called Downtown? Draw it if you like
but describe your drawing in words, too.
Then discuss student ideas on Downtown by writing on the white board
important ideas that will be discussed in the PowerPoint
presentation (like commercial center, social gatherings, center
for government, etc.)
Identify the four main types - Downtown
