Introduce Vocabulary - Use Activity 1: Vocabulary Memory Game

Flash cards and memory game to learn and practice correct vocabulary

Identify features of Creole Architecture- Use Activity 2: Creole Cottage Recipe, variation 2 

Students to use Survey Form individually to identify features of Creole Architecture
Students to design and label a Creole Cottage
Compare students' sketch with Magnolia Mound image

Further identification and discussion - Use provided overhead transparency or provided Power Point Presentation and EZ Content Blueprint

Note taking and discussion exercise to build on and expand knowledge of the features of Creole Architecture

Ask students why they think these are Creole Architectural features
Pursue explanations concerning climate, heritage, materials, and usefulness of design

Review Vocabulary - Use Activity 1: Vocabulary Memory Game

Writing assessment

Written description of Creole Cottage

Ask students to pretend they are writing to a distant relative describing the brand new house drawn on their Survey Form.
Using their Survey Form, sketch, and their notes, students should clearly describe the features of their Creole house in the letter.
