Overview:
In this lesson, the students will investigate the processes involved in preserving historic places in Louisiana as well as discover why this is important in the broader context of caring for our heritage. Students will be guided through several activities that will allow them to investigate several aspects of historic preservation. They will be divided into groups and each group will form a team to defend the preservation of a historic place in Louisiana. To defend the historic place, students will become knowledgeable in the field of historic preservation and will compile a presentation to convey why their place is historic and why it should be preserved. As part of the presentation, they will also determine the organization that will assist them and explain how they will preserve their historic place. They will also investigate their own hometown for historic places.

3-5 days depending on the time allotted for the lesson and the availability of computer equipment.
