In
this lesson, the students will investigate the processes involved
in preserving historic places in Louisiana as well as discover why
this is important in the broader context of caring for our heritage.
Students will be guided through several activities that will allow
them to investigate several aspects of historic preservation. They
will be divided into groups and each group will form a team to defend
the preservation of a historic place in Louisiana. To defend the historic
place, students will become knowledgeable in the field of historic
preservation and will compile a presentation to convey why their place
is historic and why it should be preserved. As part of the presentation,
they will also determine the organization that will assist them and
explain how they will preserve their historic place. They will also
investigate their own hometown for historic places.
