Railroad Town Locater

  1. Many new towns grew up quickly along the railroad. Using a map of Louisiana, locate and label the following railroad towns on a blank map.

    Bernice, Bunkie, Crowley, Eunice, Gibsland, Ruston, and Zwolle.

  2. Use the compass rose to find the direction you would travel on a train from Crowley to Zwolle.
  3. Using the map scale, find the distance between Ruston and Bunkie.
  4. Use the map scale to decide which is further from New Orleans, Bernice or Eunice.
  5. Many other towns were bypassed by the railroad. Either they relocated closer to the line or faded out of existence. Using a map of Louisiana, try to locate and label the following 19th-century towns.

    Arizona, Bayou Sara, Bellevue, Grand Coteau, and Vienna.
